Welcome to summer at Blue Tide Foundation
First, BRAVO to all graduates! Whether high school, college or university, your education is something you will have forever and no one can ever take that from you.
Summer at Blue Tide

First of all, we’re attending Irrelevant Week #34 from June 22 to 26, here in Newport Beach.  This great week honors the ‘underdog’, aka the last player drafted into the NFL, which this year happens to be Ryan Succop.  Drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, Ryan will be celebrated, hosted and roasted for one week in Newport before reporting to training camp. Congratulations Ryan!
We love the spirit of Irrelevant Week, which is “doing something nice for someone for no reason” and supporting our friends @ IW!

This year Irrelevant Week’s events will help support SPIN (Serving People In Need) and the ‘First Time Homeless’ Programs for families in need.  Having a great time while raising funds for charity...what’s better than that??

Camp Blue Tide
In this first year, we want to give kids a break from tough circumstances.  A day at the Newport Dunes beach, a day at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point and maybe even a Dodger or Angel game.  We are seeking donors for this inaugural year.

And on that note...summer is the time for getting out of the office a little, so.....

Let us be your ‘Volunteer Ambassador’ via our volunteer offsets.
Send us out to volunteer on your behalf.  Pick your location anywhere in the US and we will go there to work for a charity or project of your choice for seven+ days.  But please hurry – there are only a couple of weeks still available!

Meanwhile, we hope to become the ‘official Volunteer Ambassador’ for our friends at the NFL for the upcoming season and beyond.

Other events we’re working to include:

The Great Walkabout for Charity
An event designed to harness the generosity of all of Newport Beach to benefit Blue Tide and one to two other charities (details to follow).  Sponsorships will be available, both locally and nationally.

Our annual Cambodia visit – approximately ten days.
We try to go annually to work with our adopted partner in Cambodia.  Your donated frequent flyer miles help us get there.  Once there, expenses are minimal.  It’s a working trip designed to see first hand the progress made in fighting the battle to reduce child sex trafficking and educating kids out of poverty.

All in all it should be a busy summer!

P.S.
Our new friend and why I mention him...
At the Newport premier of ‘Terminator Salvation’ I had the chance to meet McG, the film’s director.  What a cool guy -- very nice, down to earth and one of our local success stories.  The premier raised funds for 3 local high schools: Corona del Mar HS, Newport Harbor and Mater Dei.

Why do I bring this up?  Because McG shared an inspirational message before the film began.  He did not have famous parents or Hollywood connections to help him in the film industry -- it was “just hard work and determination” that helped him get to where he is today.  Some things never go out of style!!  And that’s the message we share with McG.

Lastly, something fun that I just heard about for parents and their children!

The butterfly release ritual is held at 7 p.m. every Saturday night at the St. Regis Monarch Beach through September 7th .  Champagne for the adults and juice for the kids before the release, then hot chocolate, s’mores and a story by the fire, after the event. All free except for a five dollar parking fee.  Sounds like a really nice treat for both parents and their children.  I know I’ll be going.
We would like to thank Local #324 in California for their donation!
Other large groups that might want to help: we ask you to consider the ‘dollar per member’ concept.

Here’s a few items on our summer wish list:
Donated Frequent Flier miles: a domestic flight requires 30,000 miles while an international flight requires 50-60,000 miles.  These miles are incredibly useful in controlling costs.

Our own SUV?  We know a new vehicle would be a challenge in this economy with car companies facing such difficulties.  Maybe a car rental agencies such as Hertz, Avis, Budget might consider donating a one or two year old certified, pre-owned SUV maybe the size of a Chevrolet Tahoe or similar vehicle.
Note to eBay sellers: Don’t forget that you may choose Blue Tide Foundation to receive 1-10% from your sales!
Our thanks once again for reading my message!
